PHYLLIS JAFFEE
WOODWORKER
I have been working with wood since 1998. I began taking courses at the Worcester Center for Crafts to learn the basics of furniture construction so that I could apply the skills to repairing old furniture I intended to paint. It only took a short time to realize that I far preferred woodworking to painting old furniture. Within a year I had bought my first significant power tool, a band saw and since then I have added a workshop full of wonderful implements, not to mention a collection of fantastic lumber.
Boxes have become the primary focus of my work. I have studied with Doug Stowe, in 2004, Mark Barr, in 2005, and Jenna Goldberg in 2006 at the Arrowmont School for Professional Crafts, in Gatlinburg, TN and at the Brookfield Crafts Center, in Brookfield, CT. I am always on the lookout for a special course or book that will enhance my work.
I have had a varied employment past; I was a professional interior space designer, an administrator at a nuclear research facility, and a college instructor. I am an inveterate world traveler (studying woodworking techniques in different countries), a devotee of classical music, and a non-stop reader. I have one daughter (married), one husband (married) and two Devon Rex cats (single). |
